Seawall Replacement & New Seawall Construction in Palm Beach County

Replacement means building a new wall, either where the old one stood or just waterward of it. That's typical when the existing wall is leaning, broken through, or past the point where patching is worth it.
Materials you'll hear about
- Precast or poured reinforced concrete panels: the traditional South Florida wall.
- Vinyl / composite sheet pile with a concrete cap: won't rust or rot. HomeGuide notes vinyl walls top out around 6–7 ft tall (HomeGuide, "Seawall Cost" (accessed Oct 2026)).
- Steel sheet pile: strong, but it needs coatings to hold up in saltwater.
- Riprap or living shoreline on its own or at the toe of a wall, where site conditions and regulators allow it.
The "18-inch" rule
Under Florida law, restoring a seawall at its previous location, or no more than 18 inches waterward of it, can be exempt from a state Environmental Resource Permit if certain conditions are met (Florida Statutes §403.813 (2026); Florida Administrative Code Rule 62-330.051(12), FDEP exempt activities). The exemption doesn't remove the need for local building permits, and work on state-owned submerged lands may need separate authorization. Your contractor or engineer should confirm what applies to your property.
Typical cost
HomeGuide puts seawall replacement at about $150–$600 per linear foot, or $15,000–$60,000 for a 100-ft residential wall. Complex jobs that need barge access or large backfills can run $600–$1,000 per foot (HomeGuide, "Seawall Cost" (accessed Oct 2026)). See the cost guide.
