Seawall Repair in Palm Beach County, FL

Most seawalls in Palm Beach County are reinforced concrete panels or sheet pile topped by a poured concrete cap, held back by tiebacks and anchors. Saltwater, tidal cycling and boat wakes slowly attack all of it. Repair is usually possible when the wall is still standing plumb and the damage is localized.
Common repairs
- Sealing or grouting open panel joints that let soil wash out
- Replacing corroded tie rods and installing new or secondary anchors
- Cap patching or full cap replacement (see seawall cap repair)
- Filling voids behind the wall and soil stabilization (see erosion & sinkholes)
- Adding riprap at the toe to reduce scour
Repair or replace?
Repair tends to make sense when panels are intact and the wall isn't leaning badly. If the wall is rotating waterward, panels are broken through at the waterline, or the toe has failed, a contractor will often recommend replacement or a new wall installed just waterward of the old one. HomeGuide lists non-structural seawall repairs at roughly $100–$250 per linear foot (HomeGuide, "Seawall Cost" (accessed Oct 2026)). Details are on our cost guide.
Permits
Even repairs usually need a building permit. In unincorporated Palm Beach County, marine structures including seawalls go through the Building Division's "Type 8" application, which asks for engineered drawings and any required environmental approvals (Palm Beach County Building Division, Type 8 Marine Structures application checklist). Cities and towns have their own building departments.
